We are often asked how much time should one plan for an African safari. Considering that three days will be travel days, we recommend three weeks and a weekend or 23-days. David Anderson prefers to be on safari for six week.
Most first time travelers to Africa visit East Africa. The Ultimate East African Safari will travel to the popular parks and reserves in Kenya and Tanzania.
You will enjoy deluxe accommodation in safari lodges and luxury tented camps.
As an incentive for you to book this safari now, if we receive your deposit for the Ultimate African Safari by 30 December 2016, we will deduct $500 per person from your final invoice.
A Word About Air Travel to Africa
The three most popular airlines that carry Americans to East Africa are KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and British Airways.
Your day of departure and day of arrival will depend on the air carrier you use. The following is an example of a flight itinerary that would work well for those going both to East Africa and South Africa.
You arrive in "the safari capital" of East Africa. You will be met an transferred to our hotel, the first hotel in Kenya, and a legend as the “home away from home” for Hemingway, Roosevelt, and “The Bwana.”
We leave our camp with a picnic lunch so that we can spend a full day on a game drive to the western side of the reserve. If we did not see the migration on the eastern side of the reserve, we will surely find it today.
We leave the Maasai Mara this morning on a flight to Nairobi, saving us seven hours of driving over the rough Kenya roads. We will spend the night in Nairobi and enjoy dinner at one of the city’s fine restaurants.
Our safari continues to Tanzania. Our first destination in Tanzania is Sinya, just south of Mt. Kilimanjaro. In addition to morning and afternoon game drives, we spend time interacting with the Maasai.
We have a full day to go on game viewing drives to view large herds of elephants, lion, leopard and many other animals that live in harmony with nature in this protected park. Tarangire National Park is easily accessible and boasts magnificent herds of elephant and other species of wildlife. The baobab-studded landscape also plays host to a vast variety of resident and migratory bird life. Looking out over the rolling countryside the lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 2,600 sq kms (900 sq miles) of National Park. The Tarangire flows north to south year-round and sustains an abundance of fauna and flora rarely seen elsewhere.
We fly to Arusha today where we connect with our flight home. If you use KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, you depart this evening. If your flight departs out of Nairobi, you will fly to Nairobi to connect with your outbound flight home.
